What is Go Baby Go?

Go Baby Go is a program created by Professor Galloway from the University of Delaware in 2007. The program revolves around the idea of modifying off the shelf ride on cars to allow children with limited mobility to successfully drive them independently. These modifications range from altering mechanical components, such as steering wheels, as well as electrical components if need be. Other modifications include the addition of padding and seating support to help the child sit safely and comfortably.

Local Chapter

The first Long Island chapter was started by Keep Moving Forward Inc., a state of the art, intensive physical therapy outpatient center located in Garden City. Amanda Kannengeiser, a physical therapist at Keep Moving Forward, has led the Go Baby Go movement for this chapter. Each year, this chapter typically modifies 1-3 cars to be donated. Her passion and dedication to the project has made her chapter one of the fastest growing chapters of the program. “For kids with mobility issues, these cars are priceless. It gives them the chance not only to explore the world around them but relate to their peers,” Amanda said, “For someone who relies solely on someone carrying them or pushing them in a stroller, getting a chance to control their own movement (that cause and effect) is priceless and always seen on their faces.”
